Long live the King

I finally went up to the hospital to get the blood tests done. I hate those things but I pleased to report I survived with minimal unconsciousness, although I am getting a very pretty bruise on the inside of my left elbow.

(And, y’know, you’re all fatigued and exhausted and achy… so the medical profession decides it’s going to take three vials of your blood. That’s REALLY going to help the fatigued situation! *snort*)

It’s been a pretty chilled afternoon since I got home. I treated myself to some lunch from Subway and a cake from Greggs, then napped a while after. I’ve spent the rest of the time curled up on the couch watching stuff – Awkward, Faking It, Criminal Minds and now some NCIS.

I really do adore Penelope Garcia. and Abby Scuito. Nell Jones from NCIS LA too.
Not that I’m watching any NCIS LA. Not tonight, anyhow. I’m a little too sleepy for that. I don’t think I’ll be long taking my ass up the stairs to bed.

That 642 Things To Write About book is waving at me though, so I guess I’m just gonna flip to the next prompt in it which is:
The King shows up on your doorstep… and makes me a very confused llama because last time I checked we have a Queen. Please excuse me one moment while I google and make sure she’s still with us.

Nope, Queen Elizabeth II is still the reigning monarch, and she has been since 2 June 1953 (which, random trivia, was the first thing my mum ever saw on TV). Almost 63 years, making her our longest reigning monarch.

Sure, after her we will have a King – Charles III – and, another random trivia, when he becomes King he will be the oldest to be crowned. The current record holder is William IV who was 64 when he became king in 1830. Charles is also the third-longest serving Prince of Wales, behind George IV and Edward VII

I swear I’m not a Royalist or anything, although I will admit to completely adoring Prince Philip (Duke of Edinburgh, husband of the Queen, longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the oldest-ever male member of the British royal family). You know, the guy who just says whatever he’s thinking and happily insults everyone. I think he’s fab.

A Day In The Life – February 10 2016

ADayintheLifeBanner

A Day in the Life is a monthly link up run by Georgie. To take part in the linkup, bloggers document their daily life on a designated day each month to show what a typical day is like, using the prompts/theme provided

What did I wear today? I am wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeve plain grey shirt, a Bon Jovi Forever t-shirt from the 2000 European Crush Tour – I saw them in Stoke, in case you were wondering, and it was my first Bon Jovi concert. Obviously underwear, bra and socks too
I’m thinking about putting on a sweater, cos I’m getting chilly, and the one on the back of the couch is an old blue Nike one.

What made I laugh? Talking to Dragon on the phone this morning, telling her about my dream. It was so very bizarre, involving going for a Starbucks with Jim Beaver because he missed seeing me at Asylum conventions. At Starbucks we met up with Torri Higginson and Dragon spent ages trying to tell her who Jim was. The dream then switched to a Stargate convention which was at an ice-rink. We found our seats and then Joe Flanigan & Michaels Shanks were doing some kind of… routine. Yeah.. I don’t know, but it was hysterical talking about it

TIL (Today I Learned) I’m missing an awful lot of drama/excitement at work this week. Apparently our head of the board of trustees is in critical condition in hospital after a heart attack, and that there was also a fatal shooting just outside the building. It’s not known if that’s because of the nature of the organisation or not.
I think I’m quite glad I’m signed off sick this week and safely under my blankie on my couch!

The weather It’s been grey and gloomy all day, raining off and on. It’s not been as chilly as it has been and the wind has dropped, so that’s good :)

Four people that I encountered in my day
Dragon I already mentioned I was on the phone to Dragon this morning, talking about dreams and conventions and nothing and everything. She cheered me up this morning when I was still feeling quite low and fatigued. Only a few short weeks til I head down south and spend a week with her going to some gigs. Can’t wait!

Natalie Seems my Natalie went and published a book yesterday. I’ll share a link once it’s available on amazon, should be there by the end of the week. But she’s my BFF and we talk pretty much all afternoon/evening (my time zone) on gchat. She’s not been around as much as normal today cos she’s off doing pre-employment stuff for her new job!

Geek Director Also known as the HR Director in work. One of the few people who know the real reason I’m off sick, and that’s just because of his role. He’s been texting me, just checking in on me, and we’ve been sharing excitement about the Deadpool movie.

Felicity Smoak No, really, can I have a Felicity of my very own? I’ve been doing a little catch up of Arrow today, attention span witholding. I’m about 1/3 of the way through Season 3 and no, really, I completely and utterly adore Felicity. She’s easily my favourite character on the show. I really do have a thing for the socially-awkward geek character – pick any show and there’s a 99% change that will be my favourite character.

Music Music Music

I’m working from home today because I had a doctors appointment this morning. The coughing from the flu is really pinging my asthma so I went down to get it looked at. Spent a little time on a nebuliser and have another three days worth of oral steroids.
UGH!

Working from home on payday actually seems to mean: AND NOW CASSIE BUYS ALL THE GIG TICKETS!

So. Um. The next couple months now looks something like
January 30 Gary Quinn @ Gullivers, Manchester

March 08 Gary Quinn, Luke & Mel and Raintown @ 229, London
March 11-13 C2C @ 02 London
March 22 Emma Stevens @ Robin 2, Bilston
March 26 Day out at the British Museum, London
March 28 Dexeter @ Castle Hotel, Manchester

April 28 Jess & the Bandits and Luke & Mel @ Oobleck, Birmingham

May 11 Jason Donovan @ Symphony Hall, Birmingham

I’m also very tempted with

April 23 – 24 Wales Comic Con – depending on who they announce
April 30-May 1 East Midlands Comic Con – Torri Higginson, Rainbow Sun Francks & Pauly McGillion

Oooh I’m all excited. I love having gigs planned… it makes me feel like me!

Dechox 2016

As you all know, I am a total chocoholic so I am taking the 2016 DeChox Challenge to support the British Heart Foundation

The Challenge
DECHOX is a nationwide sponsored challenge to give up chocolate for March and raise money for life saving heart research.

Any sort of cocoa is a no-no, which means chocolate bars, sweets, treats, biscuits, ice cream, cake – and even the chocolate sprinkles on your cappuccino – are off limits during March.

Last year, over 19,000 dedicated Dechoxers took on the challenge to chuck the choc, raising nearly £800,000 in the process for the BHF – an incredible amount from a nation of true chocoholics! DECHOX 2016 promises to be even bigger and better.

So, if you’ve ever found yourself sneaking a cheeky chocolate bar after the gym or digging into your desk drawer for an afternoon cupcake, then now’s the time to test your willpower, have fun and feel good in the process.

If you want to help raise money and sponsor me, please click on this little button here:

And/or if you want to take part in the challenge yourself, please see The Dechox website
