I am an excited llama!

I am a very excited llama.

Amanda Tapping was announced for Collectormania a while back. That in itself was enough to trigger utter glee, because… hi! Tickets purchased. Lots of joy and squee.

Then last night, Michael Shanks was also announced for Collectormania. There are no words in the English language – or any others – that can adequately express the sheer level of fangirl that triggered off. According to Dragon, I was very high pitched and squeaky and bouncing.
Michael is the only one of the original SG1 I haven’t met and Daniel is my favourite character and I just… I… words fail. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

As if that wasn’t enough, Richard Dean Anderson was announced for London Film & Comic Con. LFCC in 2015 was panic attack inducing for me and I spent most of the event hiding either in Pizza Express or outside because yeaaah that wasn’t fun. We seem to have tickets, however… And I figure hey, I’m a lot more balanced and I have the propanolol if need be.

Jack! Sam! DANIEL!
It is apparently a very good year to be a Stargate fan in the UK!

5 Fandom Friday – Womances

Womances. Can I just say I’m not a fan of that term? And I’ve talked this over with my Dragon this afternoon while pondering and for all that I’m a slasher, I really don’t have very many femmeslash pairings. I’m not sure if that’s a) bad lesbian!, b) I want them for myself or c) a long commentary on the lack of female characters interacting with each other.

But, as I was making thinky noises about the topic, I ended up rambling somewhat at length about the female characters that I completely adore and thought ‘hey, I’ll do my top 5 female characters instead’ because that’s mostly related to the prompt!

Willow_Season_7First things first and we go back in time to Buffy The Vampire Slayer and one of my first major female fictional crushes, Willow Rosenberg

I was the same age as Buffy, Xander and Willow. I grew up with them. A lot of the things they were going through – ok, maybe not the vampires, demons, forces of darkness stuff – but the school and boys and family and friends, I was going through at the same time. And Willow was the first time I saw me on-screen – I was the shy, awkward, non-fashion wearing geek. I loved school. I got interested in Wicca around the same time Willow found magic. We both discovered we liked girls at the same time.

And, let’s face it, Alyson Hannigan isn’t exactly hard on the eyes.

My love for Willow… ♥

900_24Have I mentioned my love for Amanda Tapping recently? *draws even more sparkly orange hearts around the woman* And, while, yes, my introduction to Amanda was as Helen Magnus there is definitely something to be said for Stargate SG1 and Sam Carter.

From the first time we met her, we knew Sam was going to take no shit from anyone, and the more we got to know her… she’s this intelligent, independent woman who’s passionate and dorky. She’s a soldier but she’s also a woman – we see her riding & fixing motorcyles in leather, but also dancing and going shopping, having mani/pedis in floral dresses.

abby-sciutoI’ve often been known to say that NCIS‘s Chief Forensic Scientist Abby Sciuto is my perfect woman, and it really is true!

I love the paradox of her gothic style and her enthusiasm for her work. She’s this incredibly smart, caffeinated, tattooed, bubbly, caring, capable woman. Who loves dogs. And she’s so protective of her team and I love her relationship with Gibbs. She’s so varied as well, the complete opposite of what you would expect based on how she looks… I mean she goes bowling with nuns! A completely rounded, three-dimensional character… it’s almost like she’s a real person. …a paradox wrapped in an oxymoron smothered in contradictions in terms. Sleeps in a coffin. Really, the happiest goth you’ll ever meet as DiNozzo would say

Penelope-Garcia-criminal-minds-35492355-1024-768Sticking to the apparent theme of kick-ass women who solve crime, we have Criminal Minds‘s Technical Analyst Penelope Garcia. Again, somewhere up in the lines of being my perfect woman!

She’s flamboyant and outrageous and fun-loving and optimistic and excitable and provides a bit of often well-needed comic relief. I love her style, her colourfulness and her uniqueness. She’s confident and sexy and not afraid to show her emotions – especially when it comes to the BAU members, and especiallyMorgan. My love for those two is… pretty epic but that’s an entirely different ramble!

dana-scullyLast but by no means least is The X-Files very own FBI Special Agent Dana Scully; a woman who had quite the role in shaping my formative, early teen, years.

I was always really interested in science but of course, that wasn’t ‘cool’. Along comes Scully, an FBI Agent who’s a Dr and has a degree in physics. Suddenly, STEM is… maybe a little less dorky.

She’s intelligent and I always loved how she held on to her sceptism and faith, despite everything she and Mulder encountered, and the way she reconciled her scientific background and her Catholicism. She has this dry wit and a sharp humor and I love her snark. I always loved how she’s never the damsel in distress, but in fact she was often the one rescuing Mulder when he got caught up in something.

Honourable Mentions
Princess Leia (Star Wars)
Felicity Smoak (Arrow)
Maura Isles (Rizzoli & Isles)
Alex Reid (Saving Hope)
Cassandra Cillian (The Librarians)
Parker (Leverage)
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

5 Fandom Friday – OTPs

Five top OTPs? *exhales* Just five? Where the hell do I even start to answer this? I mean, hell I have more than five pairings in just my current fandom, let alone my twenty years worth of fandom history?!

*taps lip and makes thinkynoises*

Right. So. We’ll start with Stargate SG1 since that’s my current main fandom. Now, sure, like I just said, I have more than five pairings I ship but when it all comes down to it, my OTP is most definitely Jack O’Neill/Daniel Jackson
I could ramble at length about why I love these guys, but I’m not really feeling up to it, so I’m just going to carry on and list my main other OTPs. I’ll make a note to talk more about things at another date when I feel better.

Stargate: Atlantis comes next. I have a lot less pairings for SGA than I do for SG1 and, as cliche as it is, it really has to be John Sheppard/Rodney McKay
Which I always find to be absolutely hilarious because I cannot stand Rodney but the bond between those two is undeniable!

Now my brain basically only has space for one fandom at a time, and right now that’s Stargate. I’m now thinking about my prior fandoms, my prior pairings to list another three. So.. let’s see…

One of the fandoms I was in the longest was Kane RPS or as my friends and I jokingly referred to them and their circle of friends, the ITBN – it was Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, Riley Smith, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Danneel Harris… it was the ‘Incestuous Texas Boy Network’. But I digress and the main pairing from the group was Christian Kane/Steve Carlson

A fandom I do keep going back to is The Sentinel. It was one of my first online fandoms, way way way back in like 1999/2000 or so. I found it in the most bizarre way – not a topic for this post – but completely and utterly fell in love with Jim Ellison/Blair Sandburg
I mean, come one, Blair was staying with Jim for a couple of weeks while he found a new place and was still living there four years later! ♥

One more pairing, one more fandom. Um. Hm. There are so many I could choose so which one do I pick? My muse is kind of yelling at me that my other main current pairing right now is an SG1/SGA crossover pairing, John Sheppard/Cameron Mitchell but I’m trying to go for multiple fandoms here.

Pairing number five will go to one of my current favourite TV shows Saving Hope and one of my very few actually canon pairings. Charlie Harris/Alex Reid
They’re just so fucking adorable together!

There are so so many others I could mention that I’m almost tempted to start a page on this site just dedicated to all the pretty pairings and moresomes that I ship!

Any Dream Will Do

81FIRdPFciL._SL1500_ When I was but a wee llama, I was madly in love with Jason Donovan. You know, back when he looked like this. Oh be still my pre-teen beating heart! The tousled blond hair, the brown eyes, the perfect smile, the tan… ♥

I adored him as Scott Robinson in Neighbours and my little heart was broken when Scott married Charlene. There were tears. I remember it well.

I loved his music too. I had all the singles on 7″ and all his albums on tape. I’m not sure I should even be admitting this but I can still sing along wordperfect to songs like Too Many Broken Hearts or Especially For You (I’d forgiven him for marrying Kylie at that point!), or When You Come Back To Me. My parents even took me up to London to see him playing Joseph in the West End, which started a whole new love.
I still have a ridiculous amount of love for that musical and have seen it many many times. ALL THE LOVE.

Then, of course, it all came crashing down with the drugs and he disappeared into obscurity, once again breaking my tween heart. The pain, the agony! *cries*

I also have no idea why I’m writing a blog post about my late 80s/early 90s love for an Australian soap/popstar. I have however discovered he does an All 80’s Show on Heart FM on a Sunday night so I might have to look into that.

And sure, the drugs and all really aged him badly but he’s still a good looking guy and I also can’t help but think how much he looks like his dad!

I’m now going to be really pathetic and wander over to Spotify or iTunes and see if I can’t find me some ‘classic’ Jason to listen to!
